Founded in 2011, Materia Environment has been at the forefront of industrial plastic waste recycling for over a decade.

We work with industry, manufacturing, pharmaceuticals and more to audit and optimize their plastic waste. We then collect and process this waste to create a secondary raw plastic material - giving it a second life. Finally we provide full traceability and reporting to all our clients so they can track and report on all plastic waste managed by us.

Materia's 3-Step Process

Our three-step process works like this:

1. Audit & Analyse: We go onsite to your facility to and audit your plastic output. At this point we analyse your processes, and arrange for transfer to one of our sorting stations.

2. Process & Optimize: We begin to process your industrial plastic waste our processing facilities, creating secondary raw plastic material to be reused. As we familiarize ourselves with your waste, we will begin to work with you to optimize your output so that MORE plastic can be cleanly recycled.

3. Trace & Report: Using our detailed, custom-built tracking software, we can account for every ounce of waste you process with us. Using this, we can provide you with detailed traceability reports allowing you to report on how your plastic waste is being recycled. Over the years of our relationship, we will strive to better manage your plastic waste, and to improve your waste processes. The Materia Environment team is led by Hugues-Gerald Barthelemy who has over 30 year's of experience in the waste management industry.

In 2012, Hugues set out on a new course to find a better way to reduce the amount of industrial plastic waste being incinerated. He felt through waste process optimization and efficient processing facilities, organizations who produce large volumes of industrial plastic waste - such as the pharmaceutical industry - could be helped to increase the amount of tonnage of plastic waste that would avoid incineration, and instead become a useful secondary product.

Using his international and national network, Hugues has developed Materia to a point where we save thousands of tonnes of industrial plastic waste from incineration, and instead it is processed for re-use as a secondary raw material.

Over the years, Materia has gotten a reputation for efficiency, innovation and reliability. More recently, Materia has pioneered traceability and reporting on ever ounce of plastic waste that we recycle for our clients. In an era of regulatory reporting on sustainability goals and carbon emissions, our robust system of traceability is an asset to all of our client companies facilities managers and CSR teams. They receive a monthly report on exactly what sorts of plastics we have recycled for them, how much and how it has been reused. Invaluable.
